About this Studio

The wood studio in AVA’s Sculptural Studies Building is a well-equipped, state-of-the-art workshop designed for both beginners and experienced makers. Featuring a wide range of hand and power tools (see list below), the studio supports everything from furniture making to wood carving. A dedicated ventilation system is integrated with both the equipment and the studio space to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment.

Wood Studio Safety Guidelines

Wear proper attire at all times: closed-toe shoes are required; avoid loose clothing and dangling jewelry. Long hair must be tied back.
Safety glasses are required when using both power tools and hand tools.
Hearing protection is available and recommended when operating loud machinery.
Dust masks or respirators are recommended for any dust-producing processes.
Leave the studio as clean as—or cleaner than—you found it. Sweep and properly dispose of all wood shavings and scraps, and return machines to a ready-to-use condition.
Report immediately with any equipment issues.
Report any electrical hazards immediately.
Ask for assistance if you are unsure how to operate any equipment or machinery.
If a SawStop is triggered due to improper material use, you are responsible for the cost of replacing the blade and cartridge.
