Henrieke I. StreckerLate Songs
May 14-June 12, 2010 An exhibition of photogravures and mixed media by Henrieke I. Strecker will be on view in AVA Gallery and Art Center's Gallery 3 from May 14-June 12, 2010. A reception, free and open to the public, will take place on Friday, May 14, from 5 to 7pm. Henrieke I. Strecker, of Center Sandwich, NH, was raised and educated in Germany, primarily studying and working in screenprinting and old photographic techniques, including pinhole photography, photograms, and Camerae Obscurae. She also works with language and texts, writing anagrams and lyrics. Strecker has exhibited her work extensively throughout Germany, Italy and Spain. More recently, she has shown her work in several exhibitions around New Hampshire, including shows at Plymouth State University, the Holderness School in Plymouth, and the 2009 Annual Juried Summer Exhibition at AVA Gallery and Art Center. Strecker also works as an art instructor and will be teaching three workshops at AVA this summer: Cyanotype; Solar Plate Etching; and Traces of Light: Photograms. For her exhibition at AVA, Late Songs, Strecker will be showing recent photogravures and mixed media works; as the artist states: The deeper I immerse myself in my work, which means to go deeper within myself, the deeper I move into the unknown. To be honest, I am not sure if the so-called "unknown" really exists. To travel deeper into my work process is like traveling on a white map. Every step is a new mark on that map; it's like drawing on a blank sheet of paper, and line by line it will become a drawing. |
