William PeabodyIntimate Dialogues
January 8 - February 6, 2010 An exhibition of encaustic paintings by William Peabody will be on view in AVA Gallery and Art Center's Gallery 3 from January 8-February 6, 2010. A reception, free and open to the public, will take place on Friday, January 8, from 5 to 7pm. The art of William Peabody, of St Johnsbury, VT, is a reflection of his diverse background as an Episcopal Priest, parent, farmer and family counselor. Having explored a number of media, including printmaking, metal sculpture and acrylic painting on canvas, Peabody now works with encaustic wax on wood. He attended the Vermont Studio School (now the Vermont Studio Center) two times in the 1980s. Since the 1990s, he has had numerous exhibitions in both New England and Mexico, including two shows at AVA Gallery and Art Center. For his exhibition at AVA, Intimate Dialogues, Peabody will be showing several of his encaustic wax on wood paintings. This body of work comes mostly from his travels across the northern border states and western Canada, Arizona, New England and Nova Scotia. Sketches and photographs from his travels formed a basis for the creation of these paintings. Peabody has found great satisfaction in working with this medium, as he has discovered its unique personality and unwillingness to be controlled. Through his explorations, he has learned to experiment in order to uncover the many secrets encaustics have to offer. On Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 2pm, Peabody will give a talk about his exhibition. The talk is free and open to the public. |
