Bruce McCollNursery Rhymes: Recent Paintings
January 8 - February 6, 2010 An exhibition of oil paintings and works on paper by Bruce McColl will be on view in AVA Gallery and Art Center's Clifford B. West Gallery from January 8-February 6, 2010. A reception, free and open to the public, will take place on Friday, January 8, from 5 to 7pm. Bruce McColl, of Manchester, NH, studied at Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, MI; received his BA from Brown University in Providence, RI; and earned his MFA from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Following his graduate studies, McColl was an instructor of fine art at Tabor Academy, MA, and an adjunct instructor of art and art history at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA. In 2005, McColl was appointed the Director of the Currier Museum Art Center in Manchester, NH. He has exhibited widely throughout New England since the early 1990s. For his exhibition at AVA, Nursery Rhymes, McColl will be showing a series of paintings and collages that he has been working on since 2005. Conceived in oil paint sometimes combined with fabric and knit shapes, his paintings respond to, animate, and organize the beings and materials of his daily and remembered life. The paintings and collages of this series incorporate many personal influences, rendered as elemental shapes, textures, gestures and signs. Combined, these shapes and signs jostle for room in a dynamic and colorful pictorial organization. On Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7pm, McColl will give a talk about his exhibition. The talk is free and open to the public. |
