Discover the surprising art of tree sculpturing! In this class, you will enter an amazing world where living trees are transformed into sculpture, furniture, dwellings, or just about anything else you can imagine. You will learn how to work with living trees as an art material. Your palette will be the variety of tree species that grow in our local woods. Your methods will include training, grafting, and caring for trees. You will learn the use of tools like pruning saws, shears, and knives. You will be introduced to the history of this marvelous practice, the biology and botany of trees, and simple bending, joining and fastening techniques to make instant sculptures as well as tree sculptures that will last a lifetime! The class will meet at AVA on the first day. On subsequent days, the class will work offsite at a location to be announced.
