Drawing with white pencils on dark paper can yield effects that are mysterious, luminous, evocative, and subtle yet powerful — whether rendering clouds backlit on a moonlit night, shimmering reflections on water, or realistic three-dimensional objects and figures emerging in space. Whatever the subject matter, this class will awaken us from the usual dark-on-light pictorial sensibility and allow us to access new and deeper levels of illuminative intricacy, richness, and visual impact.
