AVA Offers New Public Art Projects

Public art can be much more than a sculpture in a public space. Public art can be a dynamic, collaborative, community-based project that encourages people to engage in a creative process that benefits the world in which they live.

By participating in a Public Art Project at AVA Gallery and Art Center, not only do you acquire new skills for your creative adventures, but you also beautify our community in collaboration with other artists interested in doing the same.

Miniature Installation in the Field
A Public Art Project

alt This fall, AVA is partnering with Woodland Scenics in our newest Public Art Project – “Miniature Installation in the Field” – which will be available to all CAOS (Community Arts Open Studio) participants in October.

AVA and Jake’s Coffee Company –
A Public Art Project, Summer 2010

“Make art a part of everyday life!” has been one of AVA’s mantras for many years. This summer, young artists in AVA’s art camps are bringing extra art into community members’ daily lives through a collaborative Public Art Project with Jake’s Coffee Company, located on Mechanic Street in Lebanon.

Advance Transit Bus Public Art Project

Between December 2009 and February 2010, AVA Gallery and Art Center, Advance Transit and Two Rivers Printmaking Studio successfully partnered to install 77 original artworks by 40 artists of all ages and abilities in the interior “headliners” of our regional network of buses. The works delivered free, unexpected art-experiences to passengers spending time en route and is a great example of how public art projects simultaneously involve and beautify our community.

Lino-Cut and A Public Art Project!

In Spring 2009, AVA offered a successful public art class, Lino-Cut and A Public Art Project! Instructor Josh Yunger worked with a group of artists from the AVA community to create original linoleum-cut printing blocks. The artists produced 300 individual artworks on brown grocery bags contributed by The Lebanon Co-op, The Upper Valley Food Co-op, and The Lebanon Village Market. Once printed, the bags were returned to the markets, where they went back into circulation and were given away to customers. Lino-Cut and A Public Art Project! was a playful experience that resulted in 300 original artworks produced by the community for the community -- and distributed for free!
