Opportunities for Artists

Two Spacious Artist Studios Currently Available

Both studios are located on the third floor, have wooden floors, high ceilings, and beautiful natural light from windows with southern exposure.

The third floor has a large common area, with sinks, bathrooms, and pleasant spaces for communal gatherings among the many "resident" artists.

There are twelve artists' studios on the third floor and a total of twenty studios in the building. Tenants have the opportunity to be featured in Open House events sponsored by AVA, and to be part of a unique arts community in an historic building (formerly the H.W. Carter & Sons overall factory). The building was recently renovated and awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold-certification.

All utilities are included in the rent; however, phone and internet services are paid by individual tenants. There is ample free parking space around the building.

Tenants have 24/7 access to their studios.

Specifics:

Studio 307 is 470 square feet and rents for $470/month.

Studio 309 is 504 square feet, and rents for $515/month.

Leases are subject to renewal annually.

AVA Artists' Submission Protocol

You can also download a PDF of the Submission Protocol here

If you would like to be considered for an exhibition at AVA, please be sure to include the following information:

  • Around 12 Images of Your Work: We will accept slides or digital images, but digital images are preferred. Please send a CD with .jpg images that are between 1.5 MB and 5 MB each. Please only send images that are in focus, with good resolution. If the background/frame can be cropped out, it would be appreciated. Printed material is also useful as a supplement to the digital images, as it is sometimes hard to tell about subtle color and textural variations on a computer. Please do not send original works of art.
  • A Slide List: The slide list can be submitted either on the CD as a Word document, or as a hard copy. Please include all of the following information for each piece: title, dimensions, medium, date.
  • A Clear Proposal: Please let us know specifically how you envision using our gallery spaces. If you have not seen the new spaces, please take some time to visit or request floor plans and photographs before sending in your proposal. If you have multiple bodies of work, what would you like to show? Would you be interested in showing with other artists? If so, do you have anyone in mind? Please let us know what you are thinking.
  • Contact Information: Please include your full name, address, telephone number, fax, e-mail address and website (whatever is applicable). Please keep in mind that materials will not be returned.
  • Resume: It is helpful for us to know what you have done in the past, where you have been showing, what teaching experience you might have, etc.
  • Personal/Artist Statement: Please tell us a bit about yourself as an artist, how your work has developed, where you see it going, etc.

If you have any further questions, please contact our Exhibition Coordinator, Margaret Jacobs, at AVA (603) 448 3117, or by e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . If you are proposing to curate a show, to exhibit with several other artists, or to use the spaces in any other unusual way, please do not hesitate to ask about what to submit, as it may differ from the above outline.

Other Opportunities for Artists

There are currently no open calls for entry to upcoming group exhibitions at AVA. Please check back regularly to see if any have been posted. You can also join us as a member in order to be automatically notified of new artists' opportunities. Be sure to tell us you are an artist when you call to join!
