An exhibition of mixed-media artwork and accompanying poetry by Laura Boyajian of Hanover, New Hampshire will be on view in AVA Gallery and Art Center’s E.N. Wennberg Gallery from May 30 through June 28, 2008. A reception, free and open to the public, will take place Friday, May 30, from 5 to 7pm. There will also be a poetry reading by Laura Boyajian and Ann McGarrell on Wednesday, June 11, at 7:00pm

Laura Boyajian’s ties to AVA go back two decades with her frequent participation in solo and group shows. In her resume, she describes herself as an “artist, expressionist, poet.” Her work, whether in black or colored inks, charcoal, graphite, oil, watercolor, or pastel, are immediate, spontaneous, and characterized by an expressionistic intensity. In her own words, she “dotes on the human figure, the cat, flowers, friends’ faces, and religious subjects.”

Boyajian is a graduate of Smith College and has exhibited throughout New England and nationally. Several of her works were included in the juried exhibition “Truth from Darkness,” shown throughout the United States from 1996 to 1998. Boyajian, an accomplished poet, has also given many poetry readings, including at AVA.
