Opening Reception: Friday, February 29, 5 – 7pm
Watercolor is the prevailing theme of AVA Gallery and Art Center’s February – March exhibitions, where three of the four gallery spaces in AVA’s newly renovated building will be devoted to this popular and expressive medium.
A longtime AVA faculty member, Larry is noted for his New England landscapes and ”house portraits,” rendered in loose brushstrokes and a subdued palette. Lebanon-born and -bred, Larry knew since he was a 4th grader that he wanted to be a landscape painter. “Some would say my life has been spent in search of the perfect painting,” Larry writes, adding that he is “still looking for that perfect painting. It would just be nice to do it.”
As a young man, and after three years in the United States Marine Corps, Larry attended art school in Boston. In the 1970’s, he had a studio and a gallery on Rocky Neck in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He is a past member of Boston’s Copley Society and a current member of the New England Watercolor Society, the Rockport Art Association, and the New Hampshire Art Association.
Larry’s watercolor painting classes at AVA are always filled to capacity. He is scheduled to teach both on location and at AVA in the upcoming spring and summer sessions of classes and workshops.
