ArtCards: A Mail Art Project
Curated by J. Kiku Langford

The Rebecca Lawrence Gallery Entry:
May 30 – June 28, 2008

Opening Reception: Friday, May 30, 5 – 7pm

Ongoing ArtCard Workshop

The eighty-plus ArtCards in all media were created collaboratively by some fifty artists and writers.

This project was inspired by Langford’s desire to use art to create and deepen connections between people.  Several artists were asked to create one or more ArtCards in any medium.  After the ArtCards were collected, they were re-distributed among participating artists and several more writers.  Each participant then wrote on one or more ArtCard.  The writings vary from famous quotations to excerpts from dreams, to guitar TABS.  The resulting combinations of words and art will be on display at AVA Gallery through June 28.  After the exhibition, the ArtCards will be mailed out to the friends and loved ones of the ArtCards participants.  By combining forces through visual media, words, and outreach, the hope is to touch many people through the powers of art and the human spirit.

During the exhibition, there will also be an ongoing ArtCard Workshop. The public is invited to enjoy the ArtCards on display and then exercise their creativity by making their own ArtCards to leave in the gallery or to take home to share with their friends and family.
